Phone books

All Austrian numbers at your fingertips

Phone books

Some people say that the average Austrian has exactly one book – the telephone book. This may be true or not – as a matter of fact even you can easily get one!

If you have a telephone connection at Telekom Austria, you will get your phone book by post annually. If you want to keep it, you have to pay a small amount, but this will be debited from you bank account at the same time with the phone bill. But if you don’t want the phone book you can return it to the postman or leave it in your post-box with a small message.

In the phone book you can find all numbers in alphabetical order from your locality and often there are also lists of localities on the outskirts. In addition there are the yellow pages ( Gelbe Seiten), which have categories ranging from doctors and pharmacies to businesses and craftsmen.

There are also CD-ROMs with number listings available at the post offices. If you are lucky and have internet access at home, try this service for searching telephone numbers: www.herold.at
